As an accomplished telecom industry manager and trainer, Sonja has always prided herself on helping others, whether in her work, or in her personal life. Sonja has held positions requiring perseverance, tenacity and excellent communications skills as she worked with a diverse, high-profile customer base. Today, as a real estate professional, she brings those same skills and talents to an equally broad spectrum of discriminating vacation and second-home clients.
Sonja and her husband John have been visiting Mammoth since high school ski club – we won’t mention the year…let’s just say “a long time ago.” They visited so often that Sonja and John eventually bought a second home in 2003. They started spending more and more time in Mammoth and eventually decided to try living in Mammoth full-time. Sonja and John started with a one year experiment and loved it so much they decided they are not leaving!
Sonja is known for her hard work and diligence while employing genuine caring as she creates a positive experience for both sides in any property transaction. She is focused on on-going education to help her serve her clients. In fact, Sonja has earned her Short Sale and Foreclosure Certification along with the Resort and Second Home Certifications to better help her clients. She listens to the client’s needs and matches them to the right property with an honest and efficient transaction. What Sonja likes most is helping people realize they can make their dreams a reality! Starting out as a second homeowner in Mammoth helps Sonja fully understand buyers and sellers desires and concerns in purchasing and/or selling their vacation property.
When not in the office or showing property, Sonja is an active volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Guide Dogs for the Blind, Donate Life, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In her free time, she can be found hiking, skiing, swimming, cycling, or out and about with her husband of 34 years, and their Guide Dog for the Blind “career change” dog Javier.

Born and raised in Southern California. Attended Palisades HS, Semester at Sea, and USC. Owned and operated the San Diego Volleyball Center, and founded COAST Volleyball Club before moving to Mammoth.
I moved to Mammoth in 2001 right after 9-11, looking to retire and work a little in real estate just to keep me busy – get out of the rat race. However, what started as a part time career with Playground|Intrawest has led to a full time real estate career and business located in the Village at Mammoth. I love Mammoth and all it has to offer, from the skiing for which we are famous, to all the summer activities –there are endless possibilities as far as outdoor activities. Being in real estate has offered me the opportunity to share Mammoth with clients, friends and family and see where they might fit into the community.
My husband and I also own the Side Door Café in The Village, a great place to meet with friends and share a glass of wine and some great food.
Married 36 years to Shields Richardson, three grown daughters: Brooke (and her husband Ryan), Hillary, Sara and two granddaughters, Kenzie and Raegan Baumann.

Born and raised in Mammoth, Michele’s family first came to this area in 1955. Michele learned to ski about the same time she learned to walk. Learning to ski at an early age naturally inspired her to start ski racing on the Mammoth Mountain Race Team. This experience has given her the aggressive, competitive edge needed to be the successful real estate professional she is now.
What motivated Michele to seek a career in real estate was the fact that the business provides an avenue to constantly improving knowledge and learning. Whether it is keeping abreast of the ever changing real estate laws, rules and regulations to the marketing aspects of the business. Her mother was also a very successful Broker and mentor. Michele has found joy in helping people and knowing that, at the end of the day, you have done your best.
Michele began her real estate career in 1991. In 1991 real estate was not exactly booming but it afforded a lot of time networking and learning excellent marketing techniques. While beginning a new career in real estate, Michele also donated her time coaching skiing to local kids in various programs at Mammoth Mountain.
In the beginning of Michele’s real estate career, she worked with a large Mammoth Real Estate company. She became “Top Producer”, Top 5 in the Mammoth Lakes Board of Realtors and the exclusive “Hall of Fame” ranking in the top 250 Nationally and Internationally for many years.
She brings to Mammoth Village Properties a large clientele base, 95% of her business being referrals because of her extensive experience and unsurpassed local knowledge of the Mammoth Lakes area and the whole Eastern Sierra, including Bishop, June Lake and beyond.
Michele has helped locals and second homeowners find their dream home. Walking people through the process of buying their first home, to locating and procuring investment properties. Finding the perfect second home to helping people pick the perfect lot and helping them build their home. Personal experience offers expertise in the buying and selling of resort properties to doing 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges. She is also very experienced in short sales and foreclosures.
Michele has teamed up with her husband, Cary Hansen to provide expert knowledge in the real estate market. Michele and Cary enjoy all the activities Mammoth has to offer including skiing, snowboarding, climbing, hiking, running, bicycling(mountain and road), camping, fishing, sailing and yes even learning to golf. What a fabulous place!!!
They have built their own homes in Mammoth and have a life-long vested interest in the community.
